Thanks to the efforts of Venerable Father Michael J. McGivney, assistant pastor of St. Mary’s Church in New Haven and some of his parishioners, the Connecticut state legislature on March 29, 1882, officially chartered the Knights of Columbus as a fraternal benefit society. The Order is still true to its founding principles of charity, unity and fraternity.

Angels Gate Council 1740 embodies the core values of the Knights world-wide: charity, unity, fraternity and patriotism. The Knights are involved in the local community, the parish, and the greater Church through family focused events, such as the annual Parish Fiesta they initiated in 1947. Their fundraising helps to provide scholarships for local students, support and promote vocations, and defend the rights of the unborn.
