The sacrament of Holy Matrimony is a great gift in the life of the Church and the world. Marriage is a lifelong bond between a man and a woman which exists for the good of the spouses and for the procreation and education of children. Because of its unitive and life-giving dimensions, marriage reminds us that spousal love, when lived authentically, shows forth the great love that Christ has for His Church. Through sacramental marriage, spouses become one another’s helpmates to Heaven.
Catholics who are able to marry have the right to marry in the Catholic Church. With that right comes responsibilities which are meant to assure that a person is truly free at every level of his being—body, mind, and soul—to live this reality as God intends: freely, fully, faithfully, and fruitfully. Our marriage preparation here at Mary Star is designed to assure couples of this authentic freedom.
Marriage preparation must begin at least six months before the proposed wedding date. Couples interested in being married here are asked to attend an information night, offered every 4th Monday of the month, in the “Round Room” of our Parish Center. Everything that couples would need to know and understand in order discern their next steps toward marriage is provided at this time. Because what is shared at this information night is so important for establishing a firm foundation for marriage, weddings are only booked after a couple attends one, and both parties must attend.
Interested couples should please call the parish office to reserve your space at our next information night.
A wedding is a day;
A marriage is a lifetime!As a church we rejoice with those preparing for a lifelong commitment in the Sacrament of Marriage. As a sacrament, marriage is more than a civil bond or contract, because each of those can one day be dismissed. A sacramental marriage is a covenant, a lifelong commitment bound by the love of God.
