Nine years later, a 'new' Mary Star of the Sea Elementary School was erected at the location of our present auditorium. In 1948, the present school, a convent (the Parish Center), a rectory and the present church were built. Monsignor Patrick Gallagher served as the head of the school community from 1983 to 2008. In September of 2009 Mary Star opened the doors to its new preschool under the direction of Mrs. Beth Castagnola. in July 2014, Father Maurice Harrigan was appointed and remains Pastor at Mary Star of the Sea.
Today In the tradition of Catholic Education, Mary Star of the Sea Elementary School promotes the growth of faith in Christ, academic excellence, and civic responsibility. As a small community, together with parents, faculty, and staff, it is our goal to develop these values in each student.
MARY STAR OF THE SEA HIGH SCHOOL A Brief History Mary Star of the Sea High School was founded by Monsignor George M. Scott in 1951. In 1959 the high school transitioned from a co-ed school to an all girls school; in 1971 the high school became a co-ed school once again. The Norbertine Fathers helped staff the school in 1991. The current Administration and Faculty are predominately lay women and men. Their dedication to the Catholic philosophy of education and the values of the Gospel serves as an example for today's youth. In 2007, under the direction of our late Pastor, Monsignor Patrick Gallagher, the school moved from its original location on 8th Street to the new campus on Taper Avenue. The move brought to a conclusion the first phase of the relocation dream which has been pursued since 1995. The new campus was dedicated by Cardinal Roger Mahony September 30, 2007. The students and faculty held class for the first time at the new campus November 28, 2007.
