Operations Manager / Sacraments Coordinator
Michelle has been part of the Mary Star of the Sea administrative staff for over a decade. As operations manager and sacraments coordinator, she helps facilitate weddings, funerals, baptisms and confirmations in addition to a multitude of other office duties.
Michelle is a Sacristan and a member of the Daughters of Isabella and Italian Catholic Federation. As well, she attends and supports most all church organizations and events at the church and school. Michelle loves coming to work each and every day and considers Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church her family and home.
Director of Religious Formation and Christian Initiation
Sr. Mary was born in Galway, Ireland and entered the international missionary Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Cluny. Her first assignment was in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada where she received teacher training at Hamilton Teachers' College as well as a B.A. from McMaster University, Hamilton. She received a M.A. in Religious Education from the same university and a Masters of Education from the University of Toronto. In addition to a teaching certification, she also received certification for school Principal and for Superintendent of Schools during her 18 years at Hamilton.
Sister Mary relocated to Rhode Island and was appointed as Provincial of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Cluny, Province of the United States and Canada ministry where she served for 8 years. She also received a Masters in Pastoral Studies from Loyola University of Chicago and a certificate of studies in Spirituality from the Institute for Spiritual Leadership.
Her next assignment was as Director of Religious Formation and Christian Initiation in the Diocese of LIttle Rock, AK. This assignment encompassed the entire state where she ministered for eleven years. Since 2011, she says it has been a privilege to serve as Director of Religious Formation and Christian Initiation at Mary Star of the Sea Church.
Religious Education Coordinator
Jamie was born and raised in San Pedro, California.
A parishioner of Mary Star of the Sea Church for over 50 years, Jamie is proud to have received the sacraments of Baptism, First Holy Communion, Confirmation and Holy Matrimony here.
Jamie enjoys working in the Religious Education departmentas well as the elementary school. She is active in the Daughters of Isabella and a Member of the Mary Star of the Sea Elementary Parent Board. She is a mother of four students.
Jamie has a devotion to Saint Padre Pio of Pietrelcina.
Director of Music Ministry
Jelil was born and raised in Los Angeles, California.
He began working at Mary Star of the Sea Church in 1996 as part of the music Ministry. Jelil plans and coordinates all music for the Masses alongside the cantors, choirs and soloists. In addition, he oversees and plans the music for all weddings, funerals, and special Masses throughout the year. He also works with the school to provide music for their Masses.
Prior to coming to Mary Star of the Sea, Jelil was the Music Director at St. Vibiana's Cathedral for 20 years. Jelil had the honor to play and direct music for many dignitaries including Saint Pope John Paul II, President Bill Clinton, Govenors Brown and Davis.
Sacristan
Nick was born in San Pedro, California.
He first began as a volunteer at Mary Star of the Sea Church in 1989. This included coordination of Infant Baptism as well as Eucharistic Minister at Harbor View and Harbor Terrace Residence. In 1998 Nick joined the Mary Star staff as a sacristan, overseeing set up of Masses, responsible for altar servers and as plant manager for the parish and elementary school buildings.
Nick has been a member of the Knights of Columbus since 2009. He was past Grand Knight of Angel Gate Council 1740; past Faithful Navigator as well, Commander John J Shea Assembly 81 and Southern California Chapter President, Knights of Columbus. Nick is a former U.S. Navy Veteran, (served 7 years) and is American Legion First Vice Commander post 61, Battleship Iowa.
